Web and Android encrypt before upload. iPhone is encrypted before storage.

ForeverVault does not use one sentence for every app. Documents added through the website and the Android app are encrypted on your device before upload. Documents added through the iPhone app are protected in transit and encrypted by ForeverVault before storage. The iPhone app does not encrypt every document on the device before upload. User Content remains encrypted while it is stored.

How a document is protected

Website and Android

When you add a document in a browser or in the Android app, that document is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded. The upload is of ciphertext produced on the device.

iPhone

When you add a document in the iPhone app, the document is protected in transit and encrypted by ForeverVault before storage. That upload is not encrypted on the device before it leaves the phone.

While it is stored

User Content remains encrypted while stored, whichever of these paths added it. Encryption at rest is about the stored copy.

The password is a different fact

How the password is checked

ForeverVault receives the password through an encrypted connection to verify it and stores a hash, not the plaintext password. The password does travel to ForeverVault for that check.

The recovery key

A standard account has a recovery key that can be used for password reset and for delivery features described in the recovery-key guide, plus valid legal process under the Terms.

Wallet uses a PIN

Wallet encryption is tied to a separate 6-digit PIN. The account recovery key does not reset that PIN. Wallet is not opened by a document share, by Legacy Share, by ForeverBinder, or by a Trusted Contact.

What encryption does not prove

Not authorship or validity

An encrypted file can still be the wrong version, an unsigned draft, or a copy of a document someone else wrote. Blockchain proof, where you have it, is a separate feature and has its own limits.

Not every product surface

This difference is about documents added through the website, the Android app, and the iPhone app. Read the current help if a future app changes the path.

Not a reason to skip access choices

Encryption does not decide who may open a file. You still set Immediate share, Delayed share, Legacy Share, or a Trusted Contact.
