A timestamp of bytes. Not a finding about the author.
Blockchain document proof on ForeverVault is a timestamp, not a legal conclusion. Current proofs hash the exact bytes of the document with SHA-256 and timestamp that hash with OpenTimestamps, anchored to Bitcoin. When the proof is stored, the owner can download the .ots file. Older proofs timestamp the vault record and are not a hash of the document bytes. The proof does not establish authorship, identity, signature, ownership, legal validity, or that the document is the latest version.
What a current proof does
The exact bytes
A current proof takes the exact bytes of the document and computes a SHA-256 hash. If even one byte in the file changes, the hash changes.
OpenTimestamps and Bitcoin
The hash is timestamped with OpenTimestamps and anchored to Bitcoin. The anchor is a time reference for that hash. It does not publish the document itself onto the Bitcoin network, and it does not identify you to the world as the signer.
The .ots file
When the proof is stored, the owner can download the .ots file. Keep it with your own records if you want to show the timestamp later.
Older proofs, and what proof never means
Older proofs
Older proofs timestamp the vault record. They are not a hash of the document bytes. An older proof is not a fingerprint of the PDF itself.
Not legal validity
Blockchain proof does not establish authorship, identity, a signature, ownership, legal validity, or that the file is the latest version. A will can be hashed and still be unsigned, revoked, or the wrong draft.
Not access for other people
A proof does not release the document, does not notify a recipient, and does not open the vault after a death. Legacy Share and Trusted Contact are the access controls.
Which plans include it
Paid plans
All current Paid plans include blockchain proof: monthly, yearly, and Lifetime. Grandfathered Platinum includes it as well. Free does not. Paid also includes unlimited Vault items, 10 GB, an unlimited Wallet, and ForeverBinder.
Free does not
Free includes three Vault items, 500 MB, a Wallet for three cards, IDs, or logins, sharing, and Trusted Contact designation. You can store and share on Free without blockchain proof.
Encryption is separate
Proof is not the same as encryption. Documents added on the website and Android are encrypted on your device before upload. Documents added on the iPhone app are protected in transit and encrypted by ForeverVault before storage.
ForeverVault stores and organizes information. It does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice, and it does not create wills or other legal documents.
Disponible en la web, el iPhone y Android.
