Frequently Asked Questions
What is ForeverVault?
ForeverVault is a secure digital vault for your most important documents—like living wills, health-care directives, wills, trusts, insurance policies, and title documents. We help you store, organize, and prepare controlled access for the right people when it matters.
How secure is my data in ForeverVault?
Security is core to our product. Files are encrypted in transit and at rest. Access requires account authentication and additional verification steps for sensitive actions. We continuously review our controls and infrastructure to keep your data protected.
What encryption do you use?
Transport uses TLS and files at rest are protected using industry-standard encryption with strong ciphers. We also separate metadata from file storage to reduce exposure. As we roll out advanced tiers, we will publish deeper technical details and independent reviews.
Where are my documents stored?
Your files are stored in trusted cloud infrastructure in the United States with redundancy and durability safeguards. We monitor availability and maintain multiple layers of protection across storage and application layers.
Who can access my documents?
By default only you can access your vault. You may later choose to grant limited access to trusted contacts (such as an attorney or executor). Access is always explicit, time-bounded where possible, and logged.
Which file types does ForeverVault support?
Common formats such as PDF, JPEG, PNG, and DOCX are supported. For best long-term readability we recommend uploading final documents as PDF. We will expand supported types based on customer demand.
How large can uploads be?
During early access we support files up to a size appropriate for most estate documents. If you need to store larger documents or many high-resolution scans, contact support and we can assist or extend limits as we scale.
Is ForeverVault free?
Yes—during early access we offer a free tier with limited storage so you can get started. Paid plans and expanded storage will be available after our public launch, and we will provide clear migration options.
What happens if I forget my password?
Use the Forgot Password link on the sign-in screen to reset your password. For your safety we never store your password in plain text, and we will guide you through a secure reset flow.
How does phone verification work?
When you create an account we send a one-time code to the mobile number you provide. Entering the code confirms that you control the number and helps us protect your account from unauthorized access.
Why do you ask for my U.S. state?
Many estate and health-care documents have state-specific language or requirements. Knowing your state helps us organize guidance and features—like health directives and witness rules—that make sense for your jurisdiction.
Are my digital documents legally valid?
ForeverVault is a secure repository and workflow tool. Legal validity depends on the document and your state’s laws. We support storing signed documents and plan to add attorney collaboration tools and clear guidance, but ForeverVault is not a law firm.
Can I share documents with my attorney?
Yes. You can invite your attorney and grant them scoped access to specific folders or files. We keep an audit trail of access and changes. Attorney collaboration features will expand over time.
What is Emergency Access?
Emergency Access lets you pre-authorize a trusted contact to request access if you are incapacitated. You define who can request, what they can see, and what evidence is required. We apply delays and notifications to protect you.
What is Legacy Handoff?
Legacy Handoff is a controlled process that releases designated documents to your executor or heirs after we verify a qualifying event, such as death. It uses checks, waiting periods, and documentation to prevent abuse.
Can I control what my delegates see?
Absolutely. Sharing is granular—you can share a single document, a folder, or nothing at all. You can also set expiry dates and revoke access at any time. We surface sharing status clearly in the UI.
Do you support HIPAA considerations for health documents?
We are building features to help you store HIPAA-related releases and health directives securely. We treat health information with heightened care and will not disclose it without your explicit authorization.
Do you sell my data or documents?
No. We do not sell your documents or personal data. Our business is built on trust. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information and the narrow cases in which we may process data to provide the service.
Can I export my documents?
Yes. You can download your files at any time. We believe in portability and will continue to improve export options so you can keep complete control of your records.
How do I delete my account?
You can request deletion from within your account or by contacting support. Deleting your account will remove your files from our active systems except where we must retain limited records for security, legal, or audit purposes.
What level of reliability do you target?
We design for high availability using redundant systems and continuous monitoring. While no service can guarantee 100% uptime, our goal is to keep your vault available whenever you need it and to communicate transparently about incidents.
Which browsers and devices are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox are supported on desktop and mobile. We test across common screen sizes and assistive technologies to ensure a consistent experience.
Is ForeverVault accessible?
We aim for WCAG 2.1 AA alignment. Pages and controls are keyboard-navigable, and we structure content for assistive technologies. If you find any barriers, please let us know and we will address them.
How do document versions work?
When you replace a file, ForeverVault can keep prior versions so you can review changes and restore an earlier copy. We track timestamps and the user responsible for the change.
How is access verified in a legacy event?
We use a combination of designated contacts, required documents, and waiting periods. For example, an executor may upload proof and identify themselves. We then apply checks and notify backup contacts before releasing anything.
What if I move to a different state?
You can update your state in Account Settings. We will adjust guidance and future workflows to reflect your new jurisdiction.
Do you support two-factor authentication?
Yes. Phone verification is part of onboarding, and we plan to offer additional factors such as authenticator app support. You will be able to manage factors under Security settings.
How do I contact support?
Use the Contact Support link in the app or visit our Support page. We respond to most requests within one business day during U.S. hours.
What is your roadmap?
Upcoming features include attorney portals, richer health directive tools, emergency access playbooks, expanded storage tiers, and more integrations. We prioritize based on user feedback—tell us what would help you most.
Can I scan paper documents into ForeverVault?
Yes. You can upload scans from your phone or desktop. For critical documents we recommend scanning at high resolution, saving as PDF, and labeling files clearly so they are easy to find later.
How does sharing interact with document updates?
If you update a shared document, your delegates will see the latest version. You can also freeze a specific version for legal or audit reasons, while keeping newer drafts private until you are ready.
